LAMBAYONG, Sultan Kudarat – Unidentified gunmen ambushed and killed a soldier and wounded another in a remote village here on Sunday evening.
Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc, the commander of the Army’s 33rdInfantry Battalion, said on Monday that Corporal Ruel Dordas and Sergeant Julhaib Ajijul, both of the 33rdIB, were on board a motorbike and were heading back to their detachment when ambushed by gunmen on board a separate motorbike.
They had just finished barangay visitation in Barangay Tinumigues when attacked around 7:30 p.m.
“While on their way home on board a motorcycle, a motorcycle-riding in tandem assailants came after them and shot the duo at point blank,” Cabunoc told the Inquirer.
He said Dordas died there while Ajijul sustained minor injuries and was rushed by responding soldiers to the hospital.
“We strongly condemn this dastardly act against our soldier. We will strive hard to bring the suspects to the folds of the law,” Cabunoc said.
