CITY OF CALAPAN – A director of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ormeco) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death while in a drinking spree with friends in Bongabong town in Oriental Mindoro Friday night.
Supt. Imelda Tolentino, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police information officer, identified the victim as Armando Gunay, 57, engineer and director of ORMECO for Bansud and Bongabong towns.
Report said the incident happened about 9:20 p.m. when Gunay was drinking with Michael Alvarado, Jonathan Anthony Delen, and Anacito Asi, owner of the house in Barangay (village) Bagong Bayan II.
The victim and his friends started drinking at around 4 p.m.
Police, quoting witnesses, said Gunay kept talking about his problems connected with the incoming election for Ormeco directorial post.
Later, he took his caliber .357 magnum revolver from his bag then pointed and fired it into his head.
His friends, although shocked, still managed to bring him to the Renato Reyes Hospital but he died on the way there.
Police said no “crime scene processing” was done by the Scene of the Crime Operatives and the provincial crime laboratory upon the request of Gunay’s family after they decided there was no foul play involved. /jpv
