The Human Rights Victims Claims Board (HRVCB) is set to cease operations on May 12 as it hopes to complete the settling of almost 76,000 claims from victims of Martial Law before its scheduled abolition.
In a statement, the HRVCB urged all claimants who have pending transactions with the board to comply with all requirements before May 12.
The claims body is invoking the provisions of its charter, Republic Act No. 10368, which recognizes the sufferings of Filipino victims during the imposition of martial law from Sept. 21, 1972 to March 25, 1986.
The law seeks to indemnify victims of physical and emotional torture during the presidency of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. —MELVIN GASCON
