Ever heard of a “yellow” or “red” election hotspot?
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will adopt color-coding to categorize and standardize the government’s response to different degrees of poll-related violence in hotspots all over the country.
The color-coding scheme— green, yellow, orange and red, depending on the seriousness of violence or threat—will be used by the Philippine National Police in classifying election hotspots.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said they are finalizing the details of its new categorization system.
“This will be specific about the extent of disturbances, the chance of violence erupting, and tracking a hotspot’s progress,” he said in a press briefing on Friday. —JULIE M. AURELIO
