Bureau of Customs (BOC) agents have seized P10 million worth of shabu and kush weeds hidden inside children’s toys in the FedEx warehouse at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In a statement on Friday, BOC commissioner Isidro Lapeña disclosed that the two shipments containing the illegal drugs were sent separately from California, United States, and arrived in Manila on March 23 and April 18, respectively.
Lapeña said the confiscated contraband consist of approximately 2.06 kilograms of shabu and about 127.60 grams of kush weeds. The illegal drugs were discreetly hidden inside children’s toys.
“Packages were consigned to a certain Savannah Valdez of General Trias, Cavite, and Emmer Soncruz Medina of Quezon City…” the BOC chief said.
Radyo Inquirer 990 AM also reported on Friday that the illegal drugs were specifically stored inside old dolls and Lego toys.
According to Lapeña, the shipments underwent risk assessment by the Customs Examiner at NAIA, and showed “suspicious image during x-ray examination.”
“The packages yielded unbranded, colorless crystalline substance. Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force did the initial drug test which resulted positive for methamphetamine,” he said.
Lapeña said the illegal drugs were talready urned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). /kga
