DAGUPAN CITY — A carpenter and his son were killed while his daughter was wounded when a family feud turned violent at Aguilar town in Pangasinan province, police said on Friday.
Wilfredo de Vera, 56, and Kid Willy de Vera, 30, were shot dead when their relatives, armed with guns, attacked them in their house at Barangay Panacol in Aguilar around 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
De Vera’s daughter, Kathly, 27, was wounded during the shooting and is now being treated in a hospital, according to Aguilar police chief Sr. Insp. Rodolfo Santiago.
Police arrested Julian de Vera, 63, son Jefferson de Vera, 39, and nephews, Marvin de Vera, 46, Ariel Zuñiga, 27, and a minor whose identity was withheld.
Santiago said the two families, who live in houses separated by a road, had a heated verbal argument over a common friend before the shooting.
Santiago said Julian de Vera was also wounded but investigators have yet to determine how he was injured.
Wilfredo de Vera’s family was not armed during the melee, Santiago added.
Recovered from the crime scene were two empty shells from a 12-gauge shotgun, two empty shells from a .45-caliber pistol, and a kitchen knife. Santiago said a .45 caliber gun was later found in Julian de Vera’s house. /kga
