Artists, colleagues and friends of University of the Philippines (UP) Department of Art Studies Professor Emeritus Alice Guillermo will be raffling off and auctioning donated artworks from noted artists on May 5 to raise funds for her medical expenses.
Dubbed “Art for Alice,” the fundraiser will have three parts: a “lugawan” with tickets priced at P500 or P1,000 each; an online art auction; and a raffle where the tickets priced at P5,000 each come with a guaranteed artwork.
Among the artists who have donated their works are Francis M. Verano, Leonilo Doloricon, Con Cabrera, Iggy Rodriguez, Vincent Coronel, Joe Datuin, Ambie Abano, Raul Lebajo, Irma Lacorte, Aba Dalena, Tednicalao Dimaporo Camahalan, Jun Vinculado and Kelly Ramos. Other artists are welcome to participate.
A former chair of the UP art studies department, Guillermo is a nationalist educator and an esteemed art and social critic.
In 2017, she suffered a complete heart block and was hospitalized for two months. This year, she had a hemorrhagic stroke and an acute kidney injury.
“Art for Alice” will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 5 at the UP College of Fine Arts auditorium in Diliman. For more information, visit the Art for Alice Facebook page. —JHESSET O. ENANO
