The communist-led National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) has expressed hopes that peace talks with the government could resume within the 60-day window offered by President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an interview during the “Pilgrims for Peace” forum on the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman, Quezon City,
NDFP senior adviser Luis Jalandoni said the organization believed “agreements for peace negotiations” could be settled within two months.
He cited a possible deal on the Comprehensive Agreement for Socio-Economic Reforms, which includes provisions on rural development and national industrialization.
Satur Ocampo, NDFP consultant and cofounder, said he expected agreements on a ceasefire, amnesty for the NDFP peace panelists, and the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law in 60 days.
Jalandoni, however, said the talks should be held in “neutral formal venue for the security of the participants.” —Jaymee T. Gamil
