Names of barangay execs in Duterte’s drug list out ‘within the week’ – PDEA

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is poised to release within the week the names of 216 barangay officials in the drug list of President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, PDEA Director Aaron Aquino said the list consisted of barangay chairpersons and kagawads.

“I am now finalizing the list and within the week I will call for another press conference, and I will publish finally these 216 barangay kagawads and barangay chairmen who are involved in drugs,” Aquino declared.

He said the Palace already gave him the directive to publish the names of those village officials.

On Tuesday, Iligan City Rep. Frederick Siao called on PDEA to urgently disclose the names of the barangay officials tagged in the illegal drugs trade especially since the barangay election is drawing near.

“Now is not the time for PDEA to lose credibility over this matter. What is PDEA waiting for? Reveal the list as it is now and the reasons those barangay officials are on that list,” Siao said.

“Inform the public and give the officials allegedly involved the fair chance to respond to the allegations,” he added.                        /kga
