The Department of Energy (DOE) held on Tuesday in Baguio City its fifth ‘E-Power Mo’ conference, focusing on issues related to energy efficiency as it relates to the current administration’s energy policy.
DOE Assistant Secretary Robert Uy delivered on behalf of Secretary Alfonso Cusi a message highlighting “governance and resiliency” as important components in implementing the country’s energy roadmap.
“DOE believes that efficiency will reduce demand for energy, leading to increased energy security. This is a win-win situation for all,” Cusi said.
Cusi’s message also touched on DOE’s support of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill, which is currently in the third reading in the Senate.
If enacted, the proposed law would introduce energy conservation and promote the use of renewable energy sources through various government-led programs.
“Needless to say, DOE fully supports the passage of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill, which will be a game-changer,” Cusi added.
The conference also tackled DOE’s Energy Efficiency Roadmap that runs from 2017 to 2040.
Director Jesus Tamang of Energy Utilization Management Bureau of the DOE said that energy conservation “should be a way of life for every Filipino.”
“As presented by Director Tamang, the DOE envisions that by 2040, we shall be able to measure reduction of energy intensity compared to a business-as-usual scenario,” DOE Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella, who summed up the discussions, said.
Fuentebella further emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in local communities.
“We believe that energy efficiency impacts each and every one of us, our homes, businesses, place of work, place of worship,” Fuentebella said. “We hope you had a fruitful day with us, enlightened not only with a better appreciation of the scope and magnitude of the services that the DOE can offer.” /atm
