The Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group warned air travelers on Tuesday against bringing firearms and ammunition to the airport after an elderly woman was arrested last Saturday.

Emelia Florano, 71, was freed after posting bail.

Supt. Alex Lim, AvSeGroup chief at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, said Florano admitted during investigation that she brought a case that contains a .38-caliber revolver, 32 live bullets, a hunting knife, and seven empty shells, which belong to her son, a retired United States navy man.

Florano was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles, California via Seoul, South Korea on a Korean Airlines flight but was apprehended by Office of Transportation Security personnel when the firearm was detected by the airport X-ray machine.

She was charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and for violation of the election gun ban. /ee
