Well into the Philippines’ dry season, Benguet was hit with heavy hail last Saturday, April 21.
Pictures and videos on Facebook page YouLike Cordillera PH show hailstones found in villages from a rare hailstorm that lasted an hour.
Netizens revealed the hail covering rooftops, cars and walkways in sheets of ice.

Villages in municipalities Atok and Kibungan were some of the areas identified to have been hit by the weather phenomenon.
Hail is formed when a thunderstorm carries water droplets upwards to above freezing level. The freezing process forms a hailstone, which then falls to the ground when it becomes too heavy.
Though hailstorms are seen by some as a novelty with the country’s tropical climate, the storm is a burden for farmers. JB
