Former Quezon City Police District director Guillermo Eleazar formally assumed as the new regional director of Calabarzon Police, vowing to continue the government’s campaign against illegal drugs while weeding out police scalawags in the region.

On Tuesday’s change-of-command ceremony, Eleazar said Calabarzon policemen should prepare themselves for surprise inspections in police stations, echoing Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde’s policy of instilling discipline among their ranks.

“We will also give emphasis to our internal cleansing. Simple lang naman ‘yon [it’s just simple], it is to reward the good and punish the bad,” Eleazar said in his speech during the turnover rites at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna.

“Ngayon tapos na ang pakiusapan. Itutuloy natin ang ating (Now asking for favors are over. We will continue our) effort for reorientation and retraining for our office but just the same we will run after [these] scalawags in the PNP,” he added.

Eleazar said the region would strengthen counter-intelligence task force to curb the illegal activities of rogue policemen in the region.

“Meron pang iba na talagang naliligaw pa rin sa ating landas,” he said.

He also activated the regional special operations group, which would complement the operations of the regional drug enforcement unit in running after high-value targets and big-time drug syndicates.

Eleazar, the former district director of the Quezon City Police District, replaced Calabarzon Police Regional Office from Chief Superintendent Ma. O Aplasca, who was then assigned as the chief of the PNP Directorate for Operations.

Albayalde, in his speech, vouched for Eleazar’s competence, noting that the newly-promoted regional director was the first director he appointed when he was promoted as the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief in 2016. /jpv
