Daughter of SC justice among new appointees

President Rodrigo Duterte has made several appointments to key government agencies, including the judiciary.

The appointments included new judges and prosecutors, and the daughter of Supreme Court Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin.

Pia Cristina Bersamin-Embuscado was named new judge of Branch 198 of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Las Piñas.

The President has appointed Kevin Narce Vivero as associate justice of the Sandiganbayan, replacing Samuel Martires; Javey Paul Durban Francisco as commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Allen Arat Capuyan as presidential adviser for indigenous people’s concerns and Jose Arturo Garcia Jr., as general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

Government agencies

In government agencies, Mr. Duterte has appointed Nelson Cainghog as director IV of the Commission on Higher Education; Gelacio Bongngat as director II of the National Bureau of Investigation; Ermie Garon as member representing the business and industry sector of the Philippine Commission on Women; Juniño Padilla as director III of the Presidential Communications Operations Office; Jonathan Uy as assistant director general of the National Economic and Development Authority; and Marko Romeo Fuentes and Thelma Ciudadano as members of the Professional Regulatory Board of Accountancy of the Professional Regulation Commission, and Engelbert Caronan Jr. as member of the board of trustees of the Development Academy of the Philippines.

Mr. Duterte has also named Sulpicio Miguel Confiado as ambassador to Egypt and Akmad Atlah Sakkam as ambassador to Jordan.

In departments, the President has appointed Ruben Reinoso Jr. as undersecretary at the Department of Transportation; Dustin Jay Abad Condez as director III at the Department of Budget and Management, and Marissa Cabreros as deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The newly appointed judges are Edwin Monceda (Municipal Trial Court in Canlaon City); Rhodora Arrocena (MTC in Buguey); Redentor Cardenas (RTC Branch 134, Makati City); Rowena Alejandrina (RTC Branch 121, Caloocan City); Ricardo Moldez II (RTC Branch 235, Makati City); Rosario Orda-Caise (RTC Branch 234, Makati City); Augusto Jose Arreza (RTC Branch 233, Makati City); Catherine Therese Tagle-Salvador (RTC Branch 73, Malabon City); Caridad Villamor-Yee (RTC Branch 237, Makati City); Giovanni Vidal (RTC Branch 236, Makati City); Josie Rodil (RTC Branch 293, Malabon City); Misael Ladaga (RTC Branch 292, Malabon City); Anna Michella Atanacio-Veluz (RTC Branch 169, Malabon City); Cynara Hannah Cayton (RTC Branch 8, Manila); Caroline Tobias (RTC Branch 7, Manila) and Renato Enciso (RTC Branch 12, Manila).
