Labor group blasts Duterte order to list firms engaged in ‘endo’

/ 07:05 AM April 24, 2018

A labor group has slammed President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to the Department of Labor and Employment to come up with a list of companies engaged in labor-only contracting, calling it a “cruel joke” in the absence of a promised executive order (EO) to end contractualization.

Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (Sentro) also expressed hope on Monday that the President would still fulfill his campaign promise to address contractualization by signing the proposed EO which had gone on five drafts.

“It’s essentially a gimmick to cover up the faux pas of the nonpassage of the executive order,” said Josua Mata, Sentro secretary general. “(Government officials) are aware that workers are disappointed and angry because the President has been promising this for two years.” —Jhesset O. Enano
