A Filipino-Dutch company started its construction of the Philippines’ first windmills along the shores of Bangui town in Ilocos Norte province.
The 25-megawatt wind farm, the first in Southeast Asia, harvests breezes of the West Philippine Sea using 15 giant wind turbines, each standing 70 meters high with rotor blades spanning 40m.
The wind farm was seen to stabilize the unstable power supply of the province as the project was expected to generate at least one-third of Ilocos Norte’s total power requirement.
The wind turbines, which are connected to the Luzon grid, deliver power to the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative.

Filipino guerrillas and American forces liberated the City of Baguio in Benguet province from the Japanese Imperial Army.
The 66th Infantry Regiment of the USAFIP-NL (United States Armed Forces in the Philippines-Northern Luzon), who fought the Japanese, was composed of three fighting units that operated in Baguio City, Benguet province, and other communities in northern Luzon.
The infantry’s simultaneous assaults against the Japanese on Naguilian and Kennon roads led to more assaults that liberated the city.
