Albayalde wants SAF training for rookie cops to instill discipline in PNP

New police recruits may soon undergo the Special Action Force (SAF) training once newly installed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde institutionalizes the six-month rigorous course.

Albayalde said he is keen on standardizing the SAF’s six-month Basic Internal Security Operations Course (Bisoc) in the whole of PNP instead of a six-month on-the-job training program to develop discipline among policemen.

“I think it will help in developing the discipline and attitude of our policemen,” Albayalde said in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Friday.

“So what will happen now (is) we will develop their skills particularly ‘yung kanyang will to fight like a trooper,” he added.

Once implemented, new recruits need to take up Bisoc after completing the six-month Police Basic Recruit Course (PBRC) instead of a six-month on-the-job training, which, according to Albayalde, exposes rookie policemen to wrongdoings in police stations.

“Another six months na ‘yun naco-corrupt na kaagad ‘yung utak nila,” he said, adding that if the recruit flunks the course, he could no longer enter the police force.

(It’s another six months of corrupting their minds.)

Albayalde, a former SAF member, said the training is critically needed because of the country’s various internal security issues.

He also said the SAF training would help improve the police force’s capability, especially since their salaries have been recently doubled.  /kga
