BI to deport Chinese national wanted for economic crimes

The Bureau of Immigration is poised to deport a Chinese national who is wanted for economic crimes committed in his homeland.

Shi Hongye, 36, was arrested outside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 last April 15 by elements of the BI’s fugitive search unit.

BI commissioner Jaime Morente said the BI operatives were initially out to arrest another Chinese fugitive, Miao You Chun.

“The arresting agents chanced upon Shi during an operation to capture Miao You Chun, who did not appear at the scene,” said Morente in a statement.

The two Chinese nationals are on the BI’s wanted list as they are both accused of committing economic crimes in China.

Shi will be deported to China, since the BI board of commissioners has already issued a summary deportation order last November 17, 2017 for being an undesirable alien.

BI fugitive search unit chief Bobby Raquepo said Shi is also an undocumented alien, as his passport has already been cancelled by the Chinese government.

“Shi was ordered deported as his presence here was deemed inimical to public interest. He will be deported as soon as the Chinese embassy issues his travel documents,” Raquepo added.
