Despite her battle with leukemia, 7-year-old Elliesa Jasmin Musico has not neglected her studies, making her eligible for Grade 2 this coming school year.
“She started to get sick in 2015 when she was only 4 years old. She was in kindergarten at the time. She has kept on fighting,” her mother, Eugenia Musico of Taytay, Rizal, told the Inquirer.
According to Musico, Elliesa’s doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center in Quezon City have given their approval for her daughter’s enrollment as a regular student, although she will be attending classes only twice a week.
“I’ve talked to everybody in school, including the principal, and they all agreed that she can stay at home for the rest of the week, including taking examinations. It has been a family effort to help her with her lessons,” she said.
Musico and her husband, Alberto, who works as a welder, have five children.
Of the 12-cycle chemotherapy treatment recommended by PCMC doctors, Elliesa has already undergone nine sessions, each costing P13,000. The tenth is scheduled for next month.
“We thank all of you who keep on helping people like us. May God continue to bless you for all the kindness and understanding you have given us,” she said.
