A Quezon City court has ordered a woman accused of killing her husband, an active police officer, using a submachine gun to be transferred to a mental institution.
Granting a motion filed by the lawyer of the accused, Judge Rosa Samson of the QC Regional Trial Court Branch 105 also deferred the hearing on the parricide case against Josan Mary Capili until she is deemed fit to stand trial.
Court records showed that Capili, 31, was transferred on Saturday from the Quezon City Female Dormitory in Camp Karingal to the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City.
A medical certificate issued by Capili’s attending physician said the woman manifested signs of psychosis. “At present, (she) is clinically, symptomatically/mentally unstable which may compromise her capacity to stand trial,” the court order said, quoting the certificate.
Samson said the hearing would be deferred pending Capili’s complete recovery and the submission of the medical report by the NCMH.
Capili was arrested on Feb. 19 for killing Police Officer 2 Angeleo Capili, her husband of seven years, by shooting him with an Ingram machine gun that had a silencer.
After the crime, the Barangay Batasan Hills resident called up relatives for help and admitted shooting her husband, police said. —JHESSET O. ENANO
