Singer Freddie Aguilar is being considered by the ruling party, PDP-Laban, for inclusion in its senatorial slate in 2019, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said on Thursday.
This after Aguilar reportedly confirmed his possible senatorial bid next year.
Asked if Aguilar was included in the PDP-Laban’s slate, the Senate leader said, “not yet” as they have yet to finalize their list.
“By August-September pa yan ma-finalize given the overflow,” Pimentel, party president, said in a viber message to Senate reporters.
But when asked again if Aguilar was being considered, Pimentel said: “Yes, because he is a party member.”
Pimentel also said the singer is qualified to run for senator.
“And for sure he has ideas on how legislation can solve some of our problems,” he said.
At present, Pimentel said the party is considering more than 2o possible bets for the Senate, including re-electionist senators belonging to the majority bloc.
Among those up for re-election are Senators Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara and JV Ejercito from the majority bloc and Senator Bam Aquino from the minority group. /muf
