LTFRB scolds jeepney drivers for participating in strikes

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reprimanded jeepney drivers and operators who participated in several transport strikes.

Complaints filed against Piston members were read during the hearing Wednesday.  This comes after LTFRB’s persistent reminder that the franchises of public utility vehicles (PUV) drivers participating in stop operations would be revoked.

One of the drivers present in the hearing reasoned that he was not participating in the strike, rather, his jeepney was rented.  LTFRB Board Member Aileen Lizada reminded the particular driver to apply for a special permit first, as jeepneys are not allowed to do business outside of their designated routes.

Piston leader George San Mateo was not present during the hearing.  Lizada, on the other hand, assured the drivers that the complaints went through the right process.

If proven that they were a part of the strikes, LTFRB can strip the drivers of their franchises. With reports from Radyo Inquirer/ Jong Manlapaz
