No extension for filing of COCs in barangay, SK polls – Comelec

There will be no extension for the filing of certificates of candidacies (COC) for aspiring candidates in the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

This was the firm declaration of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday as village and youth candidates come in trickles at the local offices of the agency to file their COCs in the run up to the May votes.

“No extension. It will end on Friday, April 20. Wala pa tayong ina-announce, wala tayong balak mag-extend ng filing,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said during the regular Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.

“As of now, as we speak, April 20 ang last day ng filing ng COC. (You can file it) within office hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,” he stressed.

The election for village and youth officials will be held on May 14, 2018. After several postponements, it will finally push through as no legislation from both chambers of Congress was passed to postpone it.                        /kga
