Having a prominent look-alike isn’t always a good thing. And this proves true to someone, who happens to be a look-alike of Senator Nancy Binay.
On Monday, Binay recalled how she was approached last year in an airport by a father, who claimed to have a daughter, who has been bashed because she looks just like the senator.
“Tapos nakweto nya bigla sa akin na yung anak din daw nya naba-bash…dahil kamukha nya ako,” she said.
“Napaisip ako bigla na parang, Oh my God, kawawa naman itong anak nya. Parang I felt guilty… Parang i felt responsible na parang na ba-bash sya dahil kamukha ko.”
This was one of the reasons why, Binay, as she turns 45 next month, has decided to come out with 45 tips on how to handle social media bashing.
She has already posted the first three steps on how to survive social media bashing but said she also plans to publish a coffee book about it.
Tip Number 1, she said, is to “Ignore trolls and bots.”
“Huwag pong papaapekto sa mga comment ng trolls sa wall mo. Nandyan sila to get the worst of you. Wag mo silang bigyan ng pagkakataon na sirain ang araw mo,” she wrote on her social media accounts.
Tip Number 2: “Wag patulan and bashers at haters.”
“‘Haters gonna hate.’ Yan po and realided. Mahirap man tanggapin, pero normal lamang na may mga taong inis sayo. You simply can’t please everybody.”
Tip Number 3: Don’t hate memes. Appreciate them, yet be mindful.”
While she said she found the bashing against her “entertaining,” Binay said other people might take it differently.
“Pero nasasaktan din naman ako.. (It’s ) how I handle the pain. How you move on from the pain…” the senator said in jest.
Asked if she does not engage her bashers, Binay said: “Never! I will not give them the satisfaction.”
“After a while nga, noong hindi na ako pinapansin parang na miss ko din,” she said also in jest.
