Man gunned down allegedly by village councilor in Romblon

CITY OF CALAPAN — A man was shot and killed, allegedly by a village councilor and another man, outside his house in San Jose town in Romblon province Sunday morning.

The man – identified as Themistocles Sulat – in the backyard of his house in Barangay Busay feeding his chicken at about 7:20 a.m. when his daughter Leovie Sulat-Dela Rosa, who was inside the house, heard a loud sound believed to be from a gun that had been fired, according to the Mimaropa Police Regional Office.

She went out to check the source of the noise and saw her father lying on the pavement.

She then saw two men, one of them carrying a rifle, fleeing.

Sulat was brought to San Jose District Hospital but died on the way there.

According to their initial investigation, police suspect that the victim was shot by Richie Malicsi, barangay kagawad, and Bonny Maslog, both residents of the same village.

Supt. Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson of Mimaropa police, investigators were considering a past personal grudge between the victim and the suspects as the motive for the shooting. /atm
