GAPAN CITY – A 42-year-old businessman from this southern Nueva Ecija city was the first recorded violator of the gun ban for the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Dennis Beley was caught with a cal.-45 pistol at 1:05 a.m. on Saturday, barely an hour after the election period started, said Supt. Peter Madria, city police chief.

Beley volunteered to open a sling bag containing the hand gun, when his van was flagged down at an election checkpoint in Barangay Sto. Cristo. He presented the police with his license. But all gun permits have been suspended during the election period.

The businessman faces charges for violating the Omnibus Election Code. /cbb
