A southbound Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) train bogged down during rush hour on Friday morning and offloaded about a thousand passengers.
This was the first offloading incident to be reported since full-blown maintenance activities ended 11 days ago, during the Holy Week break.
In an advisory, MRT-3 media relations officer Aly Narvaez said the train was forced to disembark passengers at Santolan-Annapolis Station due to a door failure at around 8:01 a.m.
The failure may have been caused by “stress in door components” by leaning on a door or forcing it open, Narvaez said. She reminded passengers “not to lean on the door or force it open.”
The train was immediately brought back to the depot for preventive maintenance and replacement of door components, Narvaez said.
Offloaded passengers then boarded the next train which arrived at the station four minutes after the incident.
As of 9:00 a.m., Narvaez said 15 trains were operational and running on all MRT-3 stations.
The entire MRT-3 was closed from Holy Wednesday (March 28) to Easter Sunday (April 1) for maintenance activities. The transit line successfully launched 15 to 17 trains a week after. /je
