DAGUPAN CITY—This city’s heaviest “bangus” (milkfish) weighs 5.55 kilograms (kg), while the longest measures 83 centimeters (cm), earning their owners top prizes in this year’s Bangus Rodeo.
The event, a top attraction of the annual Bangus Festival, showcases the skills of bangus growers and fishpond workers in a city reputed for producing the tastiest and best-looking milkfish.
The heaviest bangus was grown in the pond of Wilsorick Felix in Barangay Lucao. It is about 2.5 kg lighter than the 8.04-kg winning fish last year.
This year’s longest bangus was grown by Karl Lawrence Sicat. The “prettiest” bangus, raised by Alvin Caguioa, was chosen for its clear and round eyes; fine, smooth and orderly scales; and round belly.
The festival’s highlight is a street party where bangus will be grilled and shared with guests on April 30. —GABRIEL CARDINOZA
