Assumption College unveils school building donated by Henry Sy Foundation

Assumption College San Lorenzo has unveiled its new five-story building that will serve as a home to the school’s transformative learning programs and courses for adults.

Named after SM group of companies founder Henry Sy Sr., the hall is home to “iNay: Circle of Leaders and Learners,” Assumption College’s set of programs that provides life skills and transformative education for adults.

The Henry Sy Sr. Hall was donated by the Henry Sy Foundation.

Assumption College San Lorenzo inaugurates the Henry Sy Sr. Hall , which will be the home  of “iNay: Circle of Leaders and Learners,” the  school’s transformative learning programs and courses for adults.

In the building’s inauguration on Wednesday night, Assumption President Dr. Carmen Lourdes “Pinky” Valdes said that the hall is a sign that the Sy family cares about people and education.

“You didn’t have to do this. You can put your money somewhere else. Why in a school? Why did you do this in La Salle, in Miriam, and Assumption? Why in a school?” Valdes said in her remarks.

“Because I think the Sys understand there’s only one thing that will change society—education. You cannot do it any other way. You can give people money but if you don’t educate them, it doesn’t work,” she added.

Valdes also recognized Sy-Coson’s indispensable role to the SM group of companies’ exponential growth in the past decades, noting that if Sy is a visionary, Sy-Coson is a catalyst who makes her father’s vision happen.

“I remember this line so well that it is in your plaque over there. I said, ‘Wow, you must be a visionary.’ This is where’s her humility is, she said: ‘No, my father is a visionary. I just make it happen,’” Valdes said.

The Henry Sy Sr. Hall, designed by renowned Architect William Coscolluela, is comprised of state-of-the-art facilities. The five-story building includes: the Paradiso Exhibit Hall; Pamana Museum; Liwanag Innovation Center; Little Theater; Biyaya Gathering Hall; Chinshi Contemplation Place; Entheos; Harmony & Discovery; and Ani Culinary Corner.
