The Bureau of Customs on Wednesday seized P2.1 million worth of used clothing, known as “ukay-ukay,” at the Manila International Container Port.
According to Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, the shipment from Hong Kong was declared personal effects and household goods.
But when scanned, the 12-meter freight container showed images that aroused customs examiners’ suspicion, he said.
The shipment, which will undergo seizure and forfeiture proceedings, was consigned to Proline Logistics Philippines Inc., with offices at 302 and 302A The Centennial Escolta Street, Binondo, Manila. —Tina G. Santos
