The House of Representatives will comply with the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to rush the impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, justice committee chair Rep. Reynaldo Umali said Wednesday.

Umali said that it might take only one to two days for the committee on justice to discuss the case against Sereno.

“Palagay ko ay ‘isa o dalawang araw lang ito ay tapos na ito,” Umali said in an interview with dzMM.

Umali also maintained his stance that the case against Sereno was enough to oust the chief justice.

“Kaming lahat na mga abugado ay nagsasabing matibay ang kaso,” Umali said.

On Tuesday, Duterte ordered the House of Representatives to speed up the impeachment case after Sereno again insinuated that the President was behind moves to kick her out of office.

“I ask Speaker Alvarez now, kindly fast-track the impeachment. She is bad for the Philippines,” Duterte said.

“Now this time, I’m asking the congressmen and the Speaker, ‘Do it now. Cut the drama or else I will do it for you,” he added. /cbb
