LIVE: SC oral arguments on ouster plea vs Sereno

The Supreme Court (SC) will hear on Tuesday, April 10, the oral arguments on the ouster plea filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida against Chief Justice on-leave Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Calida earlier filed a quo warranto petition seeking to remove Sereno from office. He said that the Chief Magistrate had failed to submit her complete Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) when she applied for the top judicial post.

In a quo warranto proceeding, the petitioner challenges the respondent’s right to hold office.

The oral arguments are to be held at the SC compound in Baguio City following a request from Sereno’s camp. Being an impeachable official, Sereno stressed that the SC has no jurisdiction over Calida’s quo warranto petition.    /muf
