Duterte: Another Usec on chopping block and more to come

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to fire another government official these coming days.

Duterte made the announcement during a dinner with lawmakers and Cabinet officials in Pasay City on Thursday.

“I’ll be firing about one undersecretary, one after the other. Ubusin ko talaga ‘yan [I will finish them all],” he said.

The President did not provide further details.

He said he was “dismayed” as corruption activities in government was “unfolding every day.”

“As I have said, I’m not perfect. I cannot even compare my term with President Arroyo and I refuse to make comparisons with Aquino. He might have been more, more circumspect than I am,” he said.

But he assured that he would purge the government of corrupt officials.

“But at least, itong promise ko, ginagawa ko. Corruption, I’m fighting. Droga, I’m doing it,” he said.

His announcement came on the day he revealed that he already accepted the resignation of former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II. /jpv
