The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Friday that a dry run will be conducted on Saturday for a new traffic scheme that will be implemented along Commonwealth Avenue and Elliptical Road in Quezon City.
The new traffic scheme is designed to help ease the flow of traffic in the area where the construction of Metro Rail Transit-7 (MRT-7) will be in full swing.
MMDA Acting General Manager Jojo Garcia said that starting Saturday, Maharlika Street from Elliptical Road to Masaya Street and Masaya Street from Maginhawa Street to Commonwealth Avenue would become a one-way traffic.
Garcia said all public utility vehicles, including jeepneys and UV Express coming from Elliptical Road are advised to take Maharlika Street and turn left along Masaya Street to destination.
The new scheme would be fully implemented on Monday, Garcia said.
The MMDA would also install plastic barriers to separate public utility vehicles going to different directions and fences to confine pedestrians to designated loading and unloading areas, he said.
“Enforcement of traffic rules and regulations and discipline are the keys to address traffic problem here. We are asking for the cooperation of the public,” said Garcia.
The MMDA designed the new traffic scheme after motorists and commuters experienced heavier than usual traffic caused by the on-going construction of the MRT-7 in the area. /jpv
