DAGUPAN CITY – A retired Air Force sergeant was killed while a retired Army soldier was wounded in two separate shooting incidents in Pangasinan province on Easter Sunday, police said on Monday.
Police said 65-year-old Pedro Andaya, a retired Air Force sergeant, accidentally shot his head around 4:30 p.m. as he was was cleaning his .45 caliber pistol in his garage in Barangay Bonuan Boquig in this city.
According to Dagupan Deputy Police Chief Supt. Marcos Anod, Andaya died while he was being transported to the Region 1 Medical Center.
Meanwhile in Tayug town, retired Army soldier Edwin Alcantara, 48, is now being treated in a hospital after he was shot by his uncle Agustin Alcantara, 65, also a retired Army soldier, around 3:24 p.m. in Barangay Panganiban.
Tayug Deputy Police Chief Alonzo Balgua said the drunk older Alcantara barged into his nephew’s house and without any provocation, fired at Edwin.
Edwin was hit in the left side of his abdomen. He is now recovering at the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital. The older Alcantara was arrested and will face a frustrated murder charge. /kga
