LUCENA CITY – A Chinese national was killed while three others were injured after their vehicle accidentally fell into a 10-foot ravine along the Maharlika Highway in Pagbilao town in Quezon province Friday night.
A Manila-bound Toyota Fortuner being driven by Manuel Ramos was negotiating a sharp curve along the descending portion of the highway in Barangay (village) Silangang Malicboy around 8 p.m. when it slammed into a concrete safety fence, a report from the Quezon police office said.
The five passengers of the vehicle, including the driver, all suffered various degrees of injuries and were brought to the Jane County Hospital at the town center for treatment.
Dennis Ong, a resident of Pasig City and interpreter of the Chinese victims, identified one of the passengers as Hui Mao, 46, resident of Fujian China. Hui died while being taken to the hospital.
Ong told the investigators that he was driving another vehicle behind the ill-fated car when the accident happened.
The injured Chinese were identified as Cheng M Bi, Guxiang M Wu and Zhang Muhuo.
