BAGABAG, Nueva Vizcaya – A passenger was killed in a Good Friday road accident involving two vans and an 18-wheeler truck in Barangay Villaros here.

Nazareno Relado, 41, died on the spot when he was pinned inside an L300 utility van (license plate WBQ 634) that was rammed at 10:45 a.m. by a truck, driven by Joey Remigio, 31, said Chief Insp. Ferdinand Laudencia, Bagabag police chief.

Remigio said he lost control of the truck when it suffered brake problems as it barreled downhill and crashed into the oncoming L300 van. The truck (license plate AAT 3813) was loaded with 1,100 bags of cement and was bound for Cabatuan town in Isabela province.

The truck overturned and fell on a second oncoming vehicle, a Toyota Hi Ace van, which carried 11 members of Macadangdang family. They were coming back from a visit to a Stations of the Cross site in Barangay Caquilingan in Cordon town in Isabela province.

All the van’s passengers survived, suffering only minor injuries.

Rescuers pulled out the L300 van driver Peter Cortez and his companion Raymundo Go, who were rushed to the PLT Hospital in Barangay Bascaran.

Police have taken custody of the truck driver.
