4 dead, 3 hurt in Quezon road accidents

LUCENA CITY – Four persons died and four others were injured in three separate road accidents in Quezon province on Thursday.

A Bicol-bound cargo truck driven by Gregorio Cabalza, accidentally lost its brake while negotiating a descending section of the zigzag diversion road in Barangay (village) Malinao Ilaya in Atimonan town around 6:30 p.m. said Chief Insp. Alexis Oliver Nava, Atimonan police chief, in a report Friday.

The wayward truck consequently bumped the vehicle ahead causing a domino effect of more rear collisions that involved two more trucks, two passenger buses and a van.

Cabalza, who was pinned down at the driver’s seat, died from serious injuries on the way to Dona Marta District Hospital in Atimonan center.

His three helpers were able to jump out of the vehicle before it collided with a passenger bus ahead and suffered minor injuries.

In Lucena, motorcycle riders Andrei Macatangay, 17, and Roderick Fedilinio, 31, died when their vehicle slammed into a concrete electric post along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Silangang Mayao early Thursday. Both died while being taken to MMG Hospital.

In Dolores town, Dolores Bomiel, 60, was walking on the shoulder of the road when she was accidentally hit by a speeding motorcycle in Barangay Bayanihan also on Thursday.

Bomiel and motorcycle driver Ronald Narvakan Asitin, 21, who both suffered head and body injuries were brought to San Pablo Colleges Medical Center in San Pablo City but Bomiel died on the way.
