Maynilad: Southern NCR, Cavite to have waterless Lenten break

There’s an old Filipino superstition that taking a bath should be avoided on Good Friday because Jesus was dead.

Customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in some cities in southern Metro Manila and Cavite province, however, might be forced to do it because of a three-day water service interruption in time for the Holy Week break.

In an advisory, Maynilad said water supply in the cities of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Parañaque, as well as in Bacoor and Imus would be cut off from 5 a.m. Wednesday (March 28) to 5 a.m. Saturday (March 31).

The water utility said it would conduct a major cleaning activity in its Putatan Water Treatment Plant in Muntinlupa “to increase plant efficiency.”

It added that resumption of water service in affected areas could be delayed due to elevation, distance from the pumping station and volume of withdrawal from the main lines (caused by the simultaneous and sudden rise in the demand).

Tankers would be deployed to deliver water in affected areas.

Maynilad’s announcement was met with fury by some customers.

“Long holiday… long water interruption? Naliligo din kami kahit Holy Week,” Jennifer Pernito Dulay posted on Maynilad’s Facebook page.

“Wow! Sobrang makasalanan na ba namin para isama ninyo sa pagpepenitensya? Para kayong si Poncio Pilato na nagparusa kasabay ng Mahal na Araw,” said Jezreel John Zeta.
