On his first day in office, Caloocan police chief, Senior Supt. Restituto Arcangel, announced the deployment of 300 police officers to reduce the number of shooting incidents in the city.
Arcangel took over from Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo who was relieved effective on Monday for failing to solve over 50 percent of vigilante shootings in Caloocan City in the past six months.
In an interview, Arcangel said he requested more men from the district’s mobile unit battalion to set up several checkpoints in northern Caloocan which Modequillo earlier identified as a problem area.
Police records showed that between January to March alone, at least 46 of the 61 people shot in Caloocan came from the northern part of the city.
“We need to increase visibility up there. So apart from our current strength, we have added 300 more police to set up checkpoints and do patrol checks in that area,” Arcangel said. —Krixia Subingsubing
