Suspected holdup man killed by guard after robbing cabbie

An alleged robber was shot dead by a security guard who came to the aid of a cab driver who said he was held up by the suspect.

The slain man was identified as Carlo Manzan, 58, a resident of Barangay Old Balara.

A police report said Manzan flagged down Rodolfo Hicap’s cab on Luzon Avenue, Quezon City, around 9 p.m. Monday and asked to be taken to Teachers’ Village.

The suspect, however, robbed Hicap on Matahimik Street, taking his P1,500 in cash and shooting him in the stomach before fleeing.

The police said that although wounded, Hicap managed to ask for help from Gienel Andoni, 21, the security guard of a nearby grocery store.

Andoni chased Manzan and a shootout ensued, leaving the suspect dead.
