13,000 jobs up for grabs in Pasay fair

Around 13,000 vacancies are up for grabs at the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan job and business fair that will be held today at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

A total of 97 local and overseas employers are participating in the fair organized by the the Department of Labor and Employment.

In a statement, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III invited returning overseas Filipino workers and new graduates to the one-day fair.

Of the 8,000 vacancies for local employment, most are for the positions of sales clerk or assistant, driver, service crew, cashier, and stock clerk. In the construction industry, the top local vacancies are for the positions of masons, carpenters, steel man, and rebar man.

The Metro Manila Development Authority also has vacancies for traffic constables or enforcers. Applicants for the MMDA positions must be 21 to 40 years old; at least 5 feet, 4 inches in height for males and 5 feet, 2 inches for females; physically fit, and willing to undergo the prescribed 15-day training program.

They must also have at least 72 units earned in college, and should be ready with barangay or police clearances.

Meanwhile, there are 11 recruitment agencies offering 5,000 job orders for overseas employment.

The jobs are in Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Qatar, Brunei, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Brazil, and United Arab Emirates. A special lane catering to returning OFWs will be set up at the fair. —Julie M. Aurelio
