PCG: Sea travelers reach over 66,000 on first day of Holy Week
Sea travelers continue to swarm in ports nationwide as the Holy Week break draws near, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Sunday.
In its latest breakdown, the PCG said that 66,683 outbound passengers were monitored in various ports across the country as of 12 noon.
The Southern Tagalog port was monitored to have the biggest portion of outbound passengers with 11,767 travelers, followed by Western Visayas with 11,528, and Central Visayas with 10,987.
In addition, 5,088 sea travelers were reported leaving the ports in Northern Mindanao, 5,002 passengers in Southern Visayas, and 4,516 passengers in Palawan ports.
All ports located in the Metro Manila, Southwestern Mindanao, and Eastern Visayas were monitored to have 3,641; 3,467; and 2,095 sea travelers respectively.
Meanwhile, ports in Southeastern Mindanao had registered 1,939 outbound passengers. The Northwestern and northeastern Luzon had recorded a total of 752 passengers.
The PGC noted that no untoward incidents were recorded despite the influx of passengers.
It then assured the public of continuous monitoring of passenger flow in all ports in line with its “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: #SemanaSanta2018,” the agency’s holiday operational plan. /je
