THE UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) made up for falling short in the recently concluded 2011 football championships of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. by winning their opening match in yesterday’s 14th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
USPF posted its first win in the Men’s Under-23 with a 1-0 edging of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 1-0.
The goal was scored by LJ Reyes in the 83rd minute, who followed up a free kick from Aljun Armamento.
Other teams who posted wins were the Cebu Queen City United (CQCU) A, who routed DBUFC, 6-0, in the men’s open bracket A.
The third game of the day was won by San Roque Royal United (SRRU) against defending champions San Roque Football Club (SRFC) Arsenal, 2-3, in the men’s bracket B.
The fourth game saw defending champions Crazy Horse blanking Erco, 2-0, while the last game had the SWU Cobras routing Azco, 5-0, in the men’s bracket B.
