Palace hopes ID system becomes law before Congress session ends

Malacañang is confident that the national ID system bill will become law before Congress ends its regular session in June.

The Senate on March 19 approved on final reading a bill that would establish the first national ID system in the Philippines.

“It will be submitted to the Palace. But I do not know if they have already a bicam. The next procedure is for the Senate and the House to reconcile their respective versions. After which, it will be ratified by both Houses. So I would say before they go on sine die adjournment, this will become law,” Palace Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace briefing.

Sought if Duterte would sign the bill, he said, “I believe so because in the last Cabinet meeting, there was an overwhelming consensus for the need for the national ID system.”

“And there’s already a budget allotted in the 2018 budget for the national ID,” he added.    /muf
