Stream takes Game One

SYLVESTER Millevo proved he was named the season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for a reason as he led the Stream Blue Devils to a 63-54 win over the Lexmark Stallions in Game 1 of the Best-of-Three Finals of the 2011 Powerade E-League for Basketball last Saturday at the City Sports Club-Gym.

Millevo, who also collared the Rookie of the Year (ROY) accolade—the first player in league history to be named rookie-MVP—piled up 16 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Blue Devils moved a win away from clinching the season’s championship crown.

Game 2 of the series was still being played as of press time.

Millevo got plenty of help from his teammates with three other Blue Devils scoring in double figures. Gilbeys Cabrera scored 15 points, Valiant Ngo pitched in 11 and Benjie Mancao submitted 10 points.

Although he was held scoreless, Jerome Holasca had a big contribution for Stream in the defensive end by tallying  nine rebounds and four blocks.

Down by three points at the half, 25-28, Stream outscored Lexmark in the third, 17-12, before icing the win with a 21-14 assault in the fourth.

Franco Cipriano and Mervin Balansag led the Stallions with 13 points apiece. The two players were also active defensively as they came away with 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
