Village chief killed in Sorsogon town

NAGA CITY–Unidentified assailants killed a village chief who also serves as driver of a town mayor before noon Wednesday in Gubat town, Sorsogon province.

Romeo Gavino, driver of Gubat Mayor Sharon Glipo Escoto, suffered six bullet wounds on the head and body after he was shot by unidentified men around 11 a.m. in Barangay Lapinig, where he is barangay captain, said SPO2 Jose Marie Larosa, desk officer of the Gubat police.

Gavino was rushed to Sordoc Hospital in Sorsogon City, about 19 kilometers from Gubat, where he died.

Larosa said investigation was still ongoing to determine the identities of the suspected gunmen and their motive in the killing./lb
