GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A policeman who was on President Duterte’s narco list and a businessman were gunned down by unidentified men in separate attacks here on Tuesday, the police said Wednesday.
PO1 Glenn Alegarte, 24, who was formerly assigned with this city’s police Drug Enforcement Unit, had just finished lunch and was about to board his car when gunmen shot him along the Bula-Lanao Road in Barangay Lagao.
Chief Inspector Peter Pinalgan Jr., chief of Police Station 3, said Alegarte was reassigned to Camp Crame after he was named by Duterte in 2016 as policemen involved in drugs.
Pinalgan said the slain policeman was on vacation and was here to attend a hearing for an unspecified case.
Police said witnesses saw four men near Alegarte’s car before the shooting. They fled on two motorcycles after making sure that the victim was dead.
An hour later, unidentified gunmen shot dead a businessman, also in Barangay Lagao. The victim was identified by police as Delon Bansuan, 44, of Barangay San Isidro.
Bansuan, who was into the buy and sell of agricultural products, was with his wife and had just finished lunch at a roadside restaurant when shot.
The wife was unharmed. He said the victim was about to board his car when the shooting occurred.
“We are following up a lead,” Pinalgan said. “I appeal for help for anyone who have information for quick solution of these murder cases,” he said.
Pinalgan could not say if the twin incidents were related and perpetrated by the same people.
Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, Central Mindanao regional director, ordered the local police to exert effort to solve the killings. /cbb
