SC orders SolGen to answer Sereno comment on ouster petition

The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the Office of the Solicitor General to submit a reply on the comment of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, who asserted she can only be removed thru impeachment and not by a quo warranto petition.

During Tuesday’s en banc, the high court told Solicitor General Jose Calida to submit a response within five days upon receipt of its order.

Calida initiated the quo warranto petition against Sereno as he insisted that the country’s top magistrate is not qualified to hold the position of Chief Justice.

He also said the quo warranto petition could even be considered by the Chief Justice on-leave as “an act of kindness to a fellow lawyer” since it would spare her from the “indignity” of an impeachment.
