Two police officers — one still active and the other retired — were among three drug suspects arrested at Barangay Socorro in
Quezon City shortly before Sunday midnight.
PO2 Joseph Soriano, 44, and retired SPO1 Eduardo Valle, 53, together with their accomplice, 32-year-old Don Jacky Cortez, yielded 19 sachets of “shabu” (crystal meth) during a buy-bust operation.
According to a report from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Cortez and Soriano were on a target list of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Soriano entered the police service in September 1997 and was assigned to different units in Mindanao before he was placed on floating status at the Police Holding and Accounting Unit in Camp Crame.
This was after he figured in a motorcycle accident which left him with a head injury, prompting him to request for early retirement.
The request, however, has yet to be approved. Valle, on the other hand, became a policeman in 1987 and served for over two decades until his retirement in 2009.
According to his records, he was last assigned to the Batasan station of the QCPD. —Matthew Reysio-Cruz
